| Having driven for both major bus companies that operate in the area, i was wondering what people actually think of the local bus system and what is the deciding factor over which company you decide to use? |

| I'm travelling on Yellow Buses. I live in Tuckton so it's only convenient. And until recently Yellow Buses were cheaper then the others (I think...). |

The bus system is wonderful, so long as you live on a bus route, those of us who have lost our bus routes due to economising perhaps do not share good views of our two main bus companies. Public transport should be available to all, and should be funded by local government, and not left to the whims of privatised companies that put shareholders first.
A lot of people have been socially excluded because of Go Ahead and Transdev's Arbitary descisions to cut routes because they do not make enough profit |

For many years Bournemouth Corporation Transport pandered to each and every resident of the borough, and as such this worked to a large degree, Then came privatisation and Bournemouth managed to maintain its stronghold with Wilts and Dorset doing the same for Poole, both companies operated a gentlemans agreement with regard to operating on each others areas.
The selling of Wilts to Go-Ahead meant the end of the agreement as it was a not written in stone, Go-Ahead done as it did in many other areas and tried to under cut and monopolise on the area they served, this in turn caused a down turn in profits for the only profit making council owned bus network, this in turn forced the sale (as well as other projects needing finance).
Now both companies are attempting to operate for a profit, but are choosing to work against each other rather than with one another, this is in turn causing the 'non profit making routes' to be squeezed into non existance, and the routes that are performing to be over subscribed with buses, good if you live on them routes, or even within a five min walk of them.
Wilts give up a route thro non profit, Yellows take it on and vice versa, but its a false hope, as they will be cut.
If both companies stopped fighting and realised they are in a seaside town and not in London then perhaps changes to suit the residents would occur.
You will always have some one put out by route or timetable changes, but cutting routes affects everyone, for those who live in Bournemouth perhaps a lobby of your local MP would see a change, remember they have a 10% stake in the company, and its there profits as well.
I like many others before and after quit Yellow buses due to the way the company was being run. If you want change then group together and seek it. |
