Unveiled as a concept last summer, the More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival is now a remarkable reality as the headline displays for this summer’s most anticipated event, taking place August 28th – 31st along Bournemouth seafront, were revealed.

‘This will be a truly fantastic FREE festival, supported by first-class world renowned pilots, display groups and historical institutions. The sheer magnitude of this astonishing FREE 4-day event, makes it an unmissable weekend for the thousands of local residents and visitors expected”, commented Mark Smith Head of Bournemouth Tourism.

The More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival will host the following headline military displays – bringing aviation pleasure, enjoyment and entertainment to hundreds of thousands of visitors:

Led by ‘Red One’, the much anticipated Red Arrows will return to the skies over Bournemouth; recognised as one of the World’s leading military aerobatic display teams, the 9 scarlet Hawks will be taking to the skies not once, or twice, but a record three times this year, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Capable of speeds of 1500 mph, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the most advanced combat aircraft flying anywhere in the World today, is the latest addition to the Royal Air Force’s inventory, and will be astounding the crowds with combat performance displays.

The RAF Falcons are recognised as the UK's premier military parachute display team. Made up of instructors from the RAF’s No1 Parachute Training School, the team of up to 12 parachutists will ‘drop in’ each afternoon and perform their unique and colourful aerial display including the ‘no contact’ canopy stack.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will take us back to the 1940s as the skies over Bournemouth stir with the sight and sounds of the iconic fighters and classic Royal Air Force bomber of the 2nd World War: the Spitfire, the Hurricane and, of course, the Avro Lancaster. The Flight undertakes some 600 displays each year as we remember these famous frontline aircraft and pay tribute to those who flew them.

We will also see displays by the Royal Air Force’s current line up of training aircraft – the Tutor, Tucano and Hawk. The Tutor is the RAF’s Primary Training aircraft – the first aircraft a future RAF pilot will fly, and of course seen recently as the mount in which Prince William completed his first solo flight. Then, moving on to the basic training aircraft, the Tucano is more complex. With a turbo prop engine and retractable undercarriage it is capable of full aerobatics. Future fighter pilots then move onto the Advanced Jet Trainer - the Hawk. More commonly seen as the mount of the Red Arrows, this solo display will demonstrate the full capabilities of this incredible training aircraft as this year’s display pilot, flies at speeds of up to 550mph and experiences G-forces of up to +6 and -3.

Completing the superb line-up, The Royal Navy will be supporting the More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival with The Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display Team, featuring Lynx helicopters and beach landings with expected air support from the naval ship RFA Mounts Bay.

To complement the military displays, civilian aircraft will also be taking to the skies, visitors to the festival can be assured of seeing the world’s only formation wing walking team - Team Guinot and locally-based Yakovlevs Aerobatic Team to perform for you. These world championship Russian designed aerobatic aircraft will give a sparkling performance with manoeuvrability and grace.

Over the next few months even more dazzling air displays will be announced, to deliver the UK’s largest FREE Air Festival.

Taking place between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers and along the promenade, the resort will be bustling with, what could be, up to a million visitors over the 4 days, holiday makers and residents.

Not just based upon visual acrobatics and feats of breathtaking sky-high aviation, this will be a festival in every sense, with ground displays, events and entertainment taking place throughout the day and into the early evening.

Alex Carter Managing Director of Wilts & Dorset, parent company of headline sponsor More Buses said; “We are proud and delighted to be title sponsors of what will be Bournemouth’s premiere event. It is a powerful platform to strengthen the More Bus brand name amongst the local community and build our reputation, services and network amongst holiday makers and day visitors. ”

In addition, More Buses will be partnering with Excelsior Coaches who will be providing transportation for VIPs, sponsors and support staff and crew.

With footfall to the town estimated to be up to a million over four days, live music, entertainment, ‘Big Bang’ firework display on Saturday night and stunning daily balloon glows have all been scheduled to maintain an action-packed festival theme.
